Where do you work?
My primary base is New York City and Long Island, as well as the Upper Delaware area of New York and Pennsylvania. However, I will be happy to discuss jobs anywhere in the greater New York metropolitan area.

What kind of projects do you do?

Why use a landscape designer?
A professional landscape designer is trained in the principles of design, as well as horticulture, graphics, drainage, site details, and best management practices. He/she will examine the site and discuss your wishes and needs in the context of existing conditions. A designer will research and select plant material that is appropriate to the site and that complements the style of the owner and of the house. Your property is as individual as you are, and rarely does “one size fit all”. Close supervision assures that planting is done correctly and that contractors are performing as expected, and maintenance recommendations create the best possible long-term outcome.

What is the design process?
After an initial phone conversation we will meet on site to discuss the scope and specifics of the work. Based on this visit and our interview (in which I recommend that all decision makers participate) I will prepare a proposal and fee structure for your approval.
If you are interested in a full design, I will first photograph and take measurements of the area. This is followed by a preliminary schematic drawing: placement of walkways, patios, lawn, screening, play areas, gardens, etc., with plant recommendations. When this meets with your approval I will prepare the final set of drawings, including a landscape plan, planting plans, and plant materials list, with elevations or perspectives as needed.
If you have a green thumb and choose to do the installation yourself, the design is yours to keep. If, however, you prefer to have someone else create the magic for you, I will be happy to recommend one of our reputable and experienced contractors. In that case I will personally choose all plant material, and will be on site during installation to ensure your satisfaction. Plant care information is offered, and a follow up visit is included.
Smaller properties may not require this entire process, and if you’re a do-it-yourselfer you may be interested in a consultation only, or coaching on an hourly basis.

How much does it cost?
Every situation is unique, depending on the site and the scope of the work. Design fees are a small part of the project cost, but you are likely to find that good design more than pays for itself. The fee structure will be included in the proposal for you to review before making a decision, although if you have a specific budget in mind it is helpful to discuss that at the initial interview. Coaching, sourcing, and similar services are billed at an hourly rate.
